We look forward to welcoming you to Helsinki in November!
This seminar aims to create a dynamic, collaborative, and safe space where scholars, artists, and practitioners can critically and creatively engage with the intersections of marginalization, (digitally mediated) social interactions, anti-colonial praxis, and futurism. We are committed to fostering an ethical and respectful environment where all voices are valued and participants feel empowered to share their perspectives and experiences. Together, we will imagine and co-create futures rooted in equity, dignity, care, and empowerment for all, ensuring that this space embodies the transformative principles it seeks to explore.
To foster a safe space for creative exchange and challenge traditional academic and artistic norms, we welcome submissions in a variety of formats, including but not limited to:
Traditional talks of 5 to 20 minutes (according to the contributor’s need)
Artistic performances, presentations, storytelling, or visual essays.
Digital installations, multimedia projects, or interactive media.
Foresight workshops, speculative design proposals, or participatory demonstrations.
Other innovative and experimental formats that engage with intersectional futurisms, digital practices, and critical scholarship.
Contributors are encouraged to think beyond conventional presentation methods and explore how form, medium, and process can embody the seminar’s themes of resistance, creativity, and futurism.
To participate in Intersectional Futurisms: Navigating Margins, Disrupting Norms, please complete the submission form by June 10, 2025.

Any relevant link to your academic/ artistic work related to your contribution.
Notifications of acceptance will be sent by June 25, 2025, with the final seminar program released
in September 2025.
The selection process for Intersectional Futurisms: Navigating Margins, Disrupting Norms will be conducted in a transparent and non-anonymous manner by the two organizers of the seminar. We believe that this approach allows us to truly get to know the contributors through their submissions—beyond just the sometimes impersonal content of an abstract. By considering the biographies, positionality statements, and other personal information provided, we aim to build a program that equitably represents diverse backgrounds, identities, levels of experience, practices, and approaches.
Our goal is to create a space that reflects the richness of intersectional perspectives, fostering dialogue across different voices, disciplines, and methodologies. As such, not being selected is not a reflection of the quality of the work submitted. Instead, it is part of the challenging process of assembling a program that is balanced, inclusive, and representative of the diversity we aim to foreground. We are deeply grateful to all contributors for sharing their ideas and stories with us, and we hope to create a space that resonates with everyone engaged in these critical conversations.
We therefore strongly encourage contributors who are not selected to still attend the seminar. This event is more than just a program—it is part of a grassroots movement designed to foster connections, amplify marginalized voices, and bring together like-minded individuals committed to intersectional futurisms. By participating, you can network, share ideas informally, and make yourself visible within this growing community. Your presence matters, and your voice is an important part of the larger conversation we aim to build.
